How to contact out of hours care

If you have a medical problem which cannot wait until the surgery reopens phone our usual telephone numbers 0117 9620652/9624692

When the Medical Centre is closed the phone line is redirected to the Frendoc Out of Hours service which deals with your out of hours medical problems.

You will be able to speak to an experienced family doctor who may:

  • Give advice and make recommendations.
  • Ask you to attend a Primary Care centre to be examined and treated;
  • Decide to visit you at home if too ill to travel.

If you need to attend a Primary Care Centre you maybe asked to attend

  • Frendoc Centre at The Greenway Community Practice, Greystoke Ave, Southmead or (see map)
    or
  • Frendoc Primary Care centre at Frenchay hospital. (see map) For more information visit www.frendoc.com

To be effective, this service requires your co-operation and asks that you use it only if you have a medical problem that cannot wait for the Medical Centre to reopen.

Other sources for help:

Ambulance: 999 for patients requiring immediate action for sudden illness or accident

Casualty: at Frenchay Hospital. Service for serious accidents, fractures and medical emergencies only.

Minor Injuries Unit: at Southmead Hospital. Service for minor injuries and illnesses from wounds and sprains to burns.

NHS Walk-In Centres

There are two walk-in centres in Bristol where patients can go for minor injuries and illnesses such as strains and sprains, coughs and colds and flu-like symptoms.
Emergency contraception is also available

  • Bristol Walk-In Centre 35 Broad Street, Bristol. Avon BS1 2EZ (see map)
    (Open 8am-8pm Monday to Saturday and 10am-6pm Sundays and Bank holidays)
  • South Bristol walk-In Centre 5 Knowle West Health park, Downtown road, Knowle West Bristol  BS4 1WH (open 9am-9pm, 7 days a week (see map)
