Patient Newletter
Winter 2010

Message from the Practice Manager
Welcome to the Fallodon Way Medical Centre
Patient Newsletter (Winter 2010).
I hope that you find this both interesting
and informative – Any suggestions for future
publications are very welcome.
As in previous years we will endeavor to keep
you informed via various methods on how to
remain well during the winter months.
Please look for future advice on how to help
yourself keep warm and well on our practice
notice board and website.
Please feel free to contact me with feedback
on the surgery (good or bad). I am always
willing to hear how we could consider doing
things differently to ensure that we continue to
provide you with the best possible service.
Building Plans
The practice has now received planning
permission for an extension to the building
which will give us three additional consulting
rooms. It is hoped that the building works will
start very soon and we apologies in advance for
any disruption this may cause.
Medication Requests
We accept prescription requests either over
the counter (preferably using the tear off
section of the prescription), by post or on-line
(for repeat medication only). If you are using
the on-line option please remember not to use
the box to include queries or messages about
medication. Unfortunately, we do not accept
prescription requests over the telephone.
Prescriptions take 48 hours to process and
please indicate if you would like it to be
forwarded to your local chemist for
dispensing/pick up.
Practice Website
The Practice website can be found at
www.fwmc.org.uk. The website contains
a great deal of information including a guide to
the team, services, patient information and much
more.
It has a direct link for patients to book
appointments and repeat prescriptions which is
easy to use and very quick. In order to
use this however patients will need to obtain
log in details from one of the receptionist.
Please take a look and let us know if there
is anything else you would like to see
included.
Mobile Telephone Numbers
We use a mobile telephone text alert system
to remind patients of their forthcoming
appointments. In order to take advantage of
this, please ensure that the surgery has your
current mobile phone number. If you do not want
to be contacted regarding your appointment
please let a member of staff know so that we can
ensure that our system is marked that you have
opted out of this facility.
The Reception Team
We have a small team of receptionist who are
here to help you. In addition to booking
appointments and generating repeat prescriptions
they carry out a wide range of additional duties
working as part of a team to ensure that you are
provided with a coordinated service.
We aim to treat all patients with respect and
courtesy and would request that, when dealing
with our staff, our patients do the same in
return.
The team is headed up by Nicky Bayliss
(Reception Manager). If you would like to
discuss any matters relating to reception please
contact her in the first instance.
Booking an Appointment
You can book your doctor’s appointment on
line – please ask for log in details if you
don’t already have them. Appointments can
also be booked in person either at the counter
or over the telephone. Appointments are 10
minutes in length however if you have multiple
or very complex issues please request a double
appointment. When booking to see one of
our nurses the receptionist will need to enquire
as to the nature of the appointment in order to
book you with the appropriate person and give
you the length of time that you require.
Do Something Amazing
96% of us rely on the other 4% to give blood
- Please don’t leave it to someone else!
If you are generally healthy and aged between 17
and 65, do something amazing……… give blood.
You can find more details by going to
www.blood.co.uk or calling 0300 1232323
Would you take an organ if you deeded one?
Nearly everyone would. But only 28% of us
have joined the Organ Donor Register.
More than 10.000 people in the UK currently
need a transplant. Of these, 1000 each
year-that’s three a day-will die waiting as
there are not enough organs available. If
you would like to help make a difference find
out more by going to
www.uktransplant.org.uk or calling 0300
