RSVP Voluntary Organisation

RSVP is a volunteer organisation which helps
to provide assistance to people in need within
the community. Website address:
www.rsvp-west.org.uk
For some time it has helped by arranging
volunteer drivers to transport patients to and
from their appointments at Fallodon Way Medical
Centre, usually those who have no transport of
their own or those who have other mobility
problems.
The surgery has availability for a maximum of
three lifts per day. Patients book transport
when they book their appointment and are
required to give at least seven days notice.
Once a week, usually on a Friday, the
coordinator visits the surgery to find out the
requirements for the following week. Drivers are
then notified over the weekend to coordinate
details.
Drivers are asked to ring the patient to
introduce themselves and double check on the
address and appointment date and time. (it is
best to telephone the day before the appointment
to ensure details are correct and driver and
patient are both aware).
The patients are expected to contribute
towards the cost of the journey. There is
a minimum charge of two pounds for a local run.
When the patient first requests the use of the
service they are told about the need to
contribute. Money goes to cover expenses.
The service
is still looking for more drivers so if
you drive a car and feel that you would
be able to help please contact Janet
Drew on 0117 3735681
