Education for our Patients who have a Learning Disability
On the 22nd October Fallodon Way Medical Centre held an information afternoon for some of our patients who have a Learning Disability.
The aim of the afternoon was to help promote and educate patients about cancer screening - and why it is just as important for them as it is for any patient.
To help facilitate, Lyn and Hilary who are Learning Disability Screening Practitioners from the Integrative Care Board (ICB) ran the session and were able, among other things, to answer questions, book screening appointments, educate patients on how to self-examine their breasts, talk through what is involved in having a smear test, and how to do a stool sample for the bowel screening programme.
The feedback we received from those patients and carers who attended was really positive, and it has already given some patients the confidence to book their screening appointments, which is fantastic news!
